Things'r Gettin' Kinda Hectic (might need help!)

So, apparently I was misinformed about my apartments... I'm planning on going back to school in the fall. My lease is up so we need to move to somewhere closer to my girlfriend's work so that she can save money on gas, while I quit my coosh job, and start living on a college-student's salary.
Turns out, that to stay without signing a lease at these apartments, it'll be an extra $400 per month! That's crazy!!! Plus all the first/last month/deposit stuff of finding a new place, so... Well, so we have One month to move, if this school thing's gonna happen at all.
So the school thing! I need help! ...I think?
I've said before that my interests are physics, math, and plants. I've just recently heard about a field called Bioenergetics; the "study of energy investment and flow through living systems". That sounds awesome! I'd love to focus a degree to that area, but... What area is that?
I'm thinking it's mainly a part of a Biology degree. Does that sound right? Biology isn't Exactly what i was going for, but I think it has a lot of the physics and math that I'm looking for. Seems to be a bit more statistical math than the calculus/linear algebra type stuff I was looking for. Anybody know any info on that? What about just "Energetics" ?
I'm going to a college in a couple hours to talk to them about what I'm looking for... I'm hoping I can get some good key-words to ask the right questions.
I need to call a few other colleges, too, some of the universities around and such, but I realy have no idea what I'm talking about, so the noise-to-info ratio will be annoyingly high.
As far as math goes, I have the goal of understanding tensors. I'm not sure if that has anything to do with biology, but... it's gotta be included.
Thanks for any info! I don't really know what I'm doing at all, so trying this reach-out-to-the-internet type'a deal.
Hopefully soon the uneasy I'm-jumping-and-don't-know-where-the-bottom-is excitement will have gone down a little, and I can get back to more interesting blogs (!)
Thanks again :)

Help

Rob,
Bioenergetics, like as in physical therapy? Here's a site that'll blow your mind! (Wanna get a PhD?)
Here's something from the Bioenergetics Society (dot-com, so…??).
I think you're right. You would start with Biology, in fact pre-med might be a good idea. Lots of physiology.
Hope that helps.
Wow, interesting stuff! That's something I've found when looking around, actually; the term “bioenergetics” can apparently mean a lot of things.
To clarify, from what I've found the type of “bioenergetics” i'm interested in is like plant metabolism, photosynthesis, nutrient-use and that type'a stuff. Yeah, really sounds like chemistry/biology, huh?
Thanks so much for the links and responding so soon! I'm lookin' through those sites right now. Thanks again :):)
Oh, duh! It's not like I've not been following this, so why did I think you suddenly changed to human physiology?
Have you seen this? When I saw it I checked out southern oregon university and found this guy's website! Mod colors, no?! LOL. But really, check out the courses he teaches.
Still looking….
Hi Rob,
I don't remember if you've mentioned it, but do you already have an undergraduate degree? Everything I see on bioenergetics looks like a graduate program. Did you see about.com's list of top biology programs? I don't see anything very near to you. What college are you visiting today? Have you thought about Distance and Online education? Here's a directory. I just did a ctrl F and typed in biology.
Diane, thanks so much for the links! I spent a while going through them. This distance learning is something I spent a lot of time thinking about (thanks!) but… I really think I need the structure. I'm pretty good at learning from books and text, but… I haven't gotten very far with that style in Calculus. Something to keep in mind for the future, though! Maybe to finish a degree or something? oh, and no, all I have is an associates degree currently…so I'll be a freshman.
SO, the GREAT news is…i went to that school yesterday (Metropolitan State) and they have The Perfect program! I heard of it from somebody in my martial arts class that I barely talk to, but mentioned school and they brought it up. It's a “Make Your Own Degree” program!!
I talked to the people, let them know about the physics/math/biology thing, and they were like, “cool!” I just gotta pick some classes from all the different areas that I'm interested in, then I'll meet with an advisor and we'll work out the details, making it into an actual degree (!!!)
So, I'm going to a seminar thing about this program (they call it “Individualized Learning” or something), and I'm sending in applications, and financial aid apps, and WOW! I'm going to school!
Thanks again, Diane, you were a big help in getting some research down !
Wow, this is really great! I love the idea of the “build your own degree” program. That is just so cool.
About distance/on-line learning. I could never do the on-line thing because I have to have someplace to be with finished work in hand, or I'll never get it done! However, I did get my graduate degree through distance learning. I met at a remote location with my classmates where we videoconferenced with another class at the University 2 hours away. The instructor was in that other classroom, teaching – in effect – two classes at once. I liked it. Once or twice the instructor came to our location and we did the whole thing in reverse. For the degree, I had to take one class on the actual campus, which was quite the commute, but just once a week, so doable (although these days, with the $$$ of fuel, I'm not so sure). Anyway, just for future reference… maybe your graduate degree (!) …
